Product Description
Gion is a classic Viennese coffee house chair made of bentwood. It is available in beech walnut, black beech, or oak-stained and lacquered beech. Bentwood is solid wood that has been bent. The process of bending wood without breaking it was developed around 1830: The master carpenter Michael Thonet succeeded in using steam to bring wood into a stable curved shape. Steam softens the lignin, which is responsible for the strength of wood, allowing the piece of wood to be bent. This process is still called the Thonet method after its inventor. Beechwood, in particular, can be shaped into a beautifully curved form due to its relatively short wood fibers.Product Code
